I didn’t get into this online arena with a long pedigree of education and years of experience in home decor and design. I am a Registered Dietitian by trade and spent 19 years in the clinical nutrition world. However, five years ago, my husbands business started to take off and I made the leap of faith into his world of construction and exterior remodeling. I now work full time in the office and help support our growing team.
My journey into this space started years ago when Pinterest was brand new. I saw all of these beautiful, cozy, thoughtfully designed homes and I was inspired to create this same aesthetic in our home. I enjoyed the process of taking an outdated room and transforming it with fresh paint, a new accent pillow or two and a few strategically placed vases, baskets and candles.
This evolved even further when we sold our home in 2019 and moved into a much smaller fixer-upper. Long story short…I bought this house after my divorce and lived in it with my 2 young boys for a couple of years until I met Ryan and we eventually moved into his house. I kept the home as a rental and when we moved into back into it, it needed a major facelift.
In just over 18 months, we installed a new roof, re-sided it, put all new windows in the house and porch, refinished the walk up attic into a living space, tore out the old carpets and replaced them with engineered hardwood, added all new light fixtures, gutted the main bathroom, tore out old overgrown bushes and added a cute little fire pit in the back yard. It was quite a busy time! But the hard work was worth it. I can’t tell you how many people stopped by when we were outside to tell us how happy it made them to see the home get the attention it had long deserved.
After completing these major renovations, we decided that it was time to build a home that we could design from scratch and had more room for my 2 teenage boys. While we loved our little house in town, we dreamed about having a place out in the country with more privacy. This was all during COVID and lumber prices were skyrocketing. But the real estate market was also booming and we were able to take advantage of record home prices and sold our house in 3 days! We had bought a 2 acre lot out in the country and started to design our dream home.
This was all new to me. I had never built a home but with our remodeling business, we knew a few things about the process. We designed and GC’d the house from scratch and what seemed like 10 million decisions later, we have a home that I absolutely love. I still can’t believe I live here! I was able to hone my new-found passion for home design over the course of the year and found a ton of inspiration from other accounts on Pinterest and Instagram. I sometimes joke that this is the home that Pinterest built. And I loved every minute of it!
I guess this is what inspired me to start this new journey. I relied on so many talented accounts that helped me create our home and I felt like I could give back and hopefully inspire others in their journey of home building or remodeling. I hope you enjoy following along!
